Ensuring that dogs are hydrated is one of the simplest ways to support their overall health, but it is something we may not think about until we have a heatwave, or if our dogs suddenly are not interested in drinking.
Better Hydration by Better Dog is a product I have been using since it launched, and it has been a great addition for hot days, or when our dogs have long, busy and active days. They love it, and it offers an easy way to help encourage hydration as part of their routine.
About Better Hydration
Better Hydration provides hydration for active, working and outdoor dogs by:
- Supporting rapid hydration
- Helping recovery after walks, training and activity
- Supporting overall joint health, coat condition and overall mobility
- Boosting energy, focus and enhancing endurance
The product was developed in collaboration with Holly Barker, a well known canine nutritionist, to ensure that only functional ingredients are used. These include:
- Goat’s milk: Easy to digest, supporting gut health with probiotics
- Nutritional yeast: Packed with B vitamins, trace minerals and glutathione (key for performance and recovery). It also helps with a yummy taste!
- MCTs: Helps to provide energy rapidly through beta-oxidation
- Collagen: To support healthy skin, strong joints, joint mobility, connective tissues health and a shiny coat
- Lion’s Mane: To enhance cognitive function and memory, stimulate nerve growth and aid with damaged nerve tissue
- Ginseng: Loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory saponins to aid recovery from stress and fatigue as well as regulate blood sugar and cholesterol
Why Hydration Matters
Hydration plays a major role in how a dog feels and functions day to day. Water supports circulation, digestion, temperature regulation and the body’s natural recovery processes. It also helps to keep joints moving comfortably and supports the soft tissues that work during exercise and normal activity. When a dog becomes dehydrated, it can impact energy levels, comfort and overall wellbeing.
Hydration & Massage
Hydration ties in closely with canine massage because well-hydrated muscles and fascia tend to respond better to treatment. Massage can support circulation, venous return, and the body’s natural recovery processes, while also encouraging the movement of waste products from the tissues so they can be processed and eliminated by the body.
This is one reason some dogs may experience a healing crisis after treatment, where they seem a little quieter, thirstier, or sleepier than usual for a day or so. It is usually a sign that the body is adjusting and rebalancing, which makes good hydration an important part of post-treatment recovery.
